Could Colin Kaepernick be the latest big name addition to the AFC West?

The AFC West, collectively, has had a crazy offseason.

The Denver Broncos traded for Russell Wilson, the Los Angeles Chargers brought in Khalil Mack and J.C. Jackson and the Las Vegas Raiders added Davante Adams and Chandler Jones. The Chiefs didn’t get better like the rest of the division, but did unload Tyreek Hill to Miami for a plethora of draft picks and then signed Ju Ju Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

But is the craziness in the division wrapped up for the offseason? Maybe not yet after this bombshell report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday afternoon.

Colin Kaepernick, who last played football in 2016, the same year he started kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice, is scheduled to work out this week for the Las Vegas Raiders, league sources told ESPN.

Colin Kaepernick hasn’t played in the NFL since Week 17 of the 2016 season, the same year he started kneeling during the National Anthem to protest racial injustice. The Seattle Seahawks toyed with the idea of signing with Kaepernick in May of 2017, but ultimately passed. Kaepernick has not had a workout for an NFL team since, with many wondering if he had been blackballed by the league.

Regardless of your personal thoughts on Kaepernick, he’s an absolute lightning rod for controversy. Every NFL fan has an opinion on him, and this news will undoubtedly turn heads.

The Raiders have Derek Carr as their starting QB and traded for backup Jarrett Stidham from the Patriots earlier this month. Nick Mullens is also on the roster, so it’s a longshot Kaepernick will get signed or eventually make the team. But if any team would make a move like this, it’s the Raiders, who are seemingly always in the NFL spotlight.
