The Denver Broncos were playing for the top spot in the AFC West on Sunday and it wasn’t going so well for three quarters. But as it has happened so many times before, fourth-quarter comeback king Bo Nix showed up and pushed the Broncos to a stunning 28-24 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs had a 92% chance of winning entering the final period, according to ESPN. But Denver rallied for a touchdown plus a two-point conversion and another touchdown with just under two minutes left for the Broncos and Nix’s fourth fourth-quarter comeback win this season. Nix now 12 in his career, tying him for 103rd all-time with Lamar Jackson among others.

The Broncos, who were in solid position but down at halftime, ran just nine plays for nine total yards in the third quarter. But the defense came through, again and the Broncos set up shop on their own 20-yard line where the team went nine plays down the field for a score, highlighted by a Nix pass to Adam Trautman for 22 yards. Down five, Denver went for two, getting it on Nix to Jaylen Waddle.

But the Chiefs looked to be on the verge of salting the game away with their own grueling drive, going 11 plays over six-plus minutes. But a third down sack of Patrick Mahomes by Alex Singleton forced KC back to the 36, making for a 54-yard field goal for shakey veteran Harrison Butker. He missed.

So the Broncos got it on their own 44-yard line and that’s when Nix found Jonah Coleman, who scampered down field for a 51-yard play. Coleman’s big run after the catch set up the Broncos at the KC five at the two-minute warning. Coleman punched it himself on the next play.

A big kickoff return and the threat of Mahomes pushed KC all the way down to the Broncos one-yard line with 15 seconds. But Denver’s defense held on their own goal-line, for the win. And that was a tale of this game, the Broncos twice converted on fourth and goal.

“We went down by 11 in the fourth quarter, and we all could’ve quit,” Nix told CBS after the game. “We could have said they got us, like last time, but something is magic about this place. So we just we came back.”

With four seconds left and it being fourth and goal, Denver held — a sack of Mahomes by Malcolm Roach.

“I mean, we put the game in the hands of our defense once again, and they got one yard close,” Nix said.

With the win, the Broncos (6-2) lead the AFC West.
