Clayton: Things to watch in the Broncos second preseason game

Pete Carroll and Vic Fangio both say they are going play starters on Saturday night in Seattle. They just aren’t saying how long.

When the starters are playing there are plenty of things to watch. Let’s break some of that down.

• The Broncos are deep and great at cornerback. The Seahawks are very good at wide receiver. It was be interesting to see how the Broncos corners cover D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. It will also be good to watch how the safeties handle new Seahawks tight end Gerald Everett.

• Russell Wilson is one of the best quarterbacks in the league and he’s working a new offense. The Seahawks are operating the Rams-49ers offense. It features more two tight-end sets and try to keep defenses guessing whether they are going to run the ball or pass.

• The Seahawks have a lot of transitioning at cornerback. The Broncos are loaded at wide receiver, so this should be a good matchup.

• Clearly, Teddy Bridgewater needs to good game to jump ahead of Drew Lock, who may be close to getting the starting job. Lock completed five passes for 151 yards last week against Minnesota.

• The Seahawks have been improving their pass rush over the past year. The early matchup against the Broncos offensive is of note.

• Former Seahawks No. 1 pick Rashaad Penny is expected to make his preseason debut. The Broncos must try to contain him.

• Still waiting to see if the Broncos will play Von Miller and Bradley Chubb. Their pass-rushing duo is one of the best in the league when healthy.

• It could be another good game for Javonte Williams, who has been one of the stars of training camp.

Preseason game No. 2 is upon us. There will be plenty to watch when the Broncos take on the Seahawks.
