Clayton: There’s no clarity yet on the Broncos ownership situation

It’s hard to figure out where Broncos ownership is heading after the ownership trial was vacated.

Two of Pat Bowlen’s daughters were suing Broncos trustees over control of the team. The case was stayed yesterday.

Everybody is thinking a settlement was reached for this to happen, but none of the principles are saying anything. All information is on lockdown, which isn’t a surprise. It’s a tricky case.

A settlement will be good, but the question is how long it’s going to take for the direction of the team is known to the public and the league. It would be nice if this could be settled before the start of the season.

The Broncos are one of the best franchises in football. Forbes has them valued at $3.2 billion.

If a settlement was reached, the options are numerous. The feeling recently was that the sisters were going to have a difficult time winning this case. The extreme settlement could be the Broncos being put up for sale.

Let’s hope that doesn’t happen. As a team, the Broncos are heading in a good direction. This case was originally scheduled for trial last September, but the pandemic delayed it.

One settlement could be each side deciding on a family member be the main owner. Brittany Bowlen is the preferred choice of the trustees.

There are more questions than answers. We’ll just keep waiting to find out.
