Clayton: Packers fans feel betrayed by Aaron Rodgers’ trade demand

For the Broncos, there is nothing new on the Aaron Rodgers front, other than the QB talking to Kenny Mayne during the broadcaster’s final days at ESPN.

Rodgers wants out of Green Bay after losing faith in the front office. Although some of his teammates think something can be worked out, he’s skipping OTAs and will probably miss training camp.

One of the more interesting developments is how Packers fans are handling Rodgers’ trade demand and his threat not to play in Green Bay again.

Henry Bushnell of Yahoo Sports went to Green Bay to try to get a feeling about the fans. He talked to Marion Peterson, a retired speech-language pathologist who took a day trip to Green Bay to see if she could run into Rodgers or some Packers. Rodgers was out of town, but she had a message for him.

“I feel disappointed in you,” she told Bushnell.

One of her prize possessions is a Rodgers jersey. When reports came out that he wanted out of Green Bay, Peterson said, “Man, I’m gonna have to lay this to rest right now.”

As Bushnell toured town, he found plenty of Packers fans who feel betrayed. Naturally, some are saying both sides are to blame.

Ben Culbertson, a long-time Packers fan, said there was plenty of blame to go around. Bushnell noted Green Bay is a tight-knit community of 100,000. They are loyal to the Packers.

He started touring several bars around the town. Many people brought up how Rodgers was drafted in the first round in 2005 and it led to Brett Favre leaving two years later. The more Bushnell toured, the more bitterness he found.

Unfortunately, the fans won’t play into any decision between Rodgers and the Packers to follow. In the meantime, the Broncos wait and watch.
