Clayton: George Paton is happy with both Lock and Bridgewater

Broncos general manager George Paton likes what he sees from his team in training camp and in the joint practices against the Minnesota Vikings.

He likes the back-and-forth competition between Teddy Bridgewater and Drew Lock, which remains even at the moment. Vic Fangio can take as much time as needed to figure out the starter.

“Some days, it’s Drew; some days, it’s Teddy,” Paton said. “These guys are working hard. They embrace the competition, which I really like, and I know Vic Fangio likes, as well. So I think we’re on the right track with both these quarterbacks.”

Paton wants improved play around the quarterback. He should certainly get that from the receivers and running backs. They need good play from the offensive.

There was little bit of a setback in practice on Thursday. Running back Mike Boone had to taken away in a cart late in practice because of a thigh injury. Guard Dalton Risner suffered a knee injury.

From Paton’s press conference, he made it sound as though he’s happy enough at the quarterback position that he’s not looking to make a trade. He also stated strongly that he thought cornerback Patrick Surtain was the best player when the Broncos were at the No. 9 selection.

With the first preseason game looming, George Paton likes what he sees on the field for the Broncos this season.
