Report: Broncos seemingly buying another property near one possible stadium site

There has been a new development in the Denver Broncos pursuit to acquire land near Burnham Yard, a potential downtown site for a new stadium for the team. After reports earlier in the summer indicated that the Broncos had begun to buy land around the yard and that the organization’s executives held utility meetings with city officials, another report has surfaced that shows that they seem to be serious about getting their hands on this 58-acre development.

According to BusinessDEN, Cemco, a steel fabricator that has operated in the yard for 22 years, is packing its things up and moving over to Commerce City. As a result, the current site will “likely” end up in the hands of the Penner-Walton Family Ownership Group.

While the signs are pointing to the Broncos relocating, team president Damani Leech recently emphasized that the team hasn’t come to a decision on any preferred stadium sites.

The Broncos’ current lease for Empower Field at Mile High expires in 2031. If the organization is serious about relocating to the Burnham Yard site, which all the reports this summer indicate, that would mean that the orange and blue would be playing games in a new site in 2032. The Broncos played in the original Mile High Stadium from 1960 to 2000 before moving to Invesco Field, the first of four different names for the stadium, for the 2001 season.

A new stadium could potentially be a new gateway for Denver to host numerous high-profile events such as the Super Bowl and the NCAA Final Four. Those events have been played in the nicest, newest (for the most part) stadiums across the country, a category in which Empower Field at Mile High doesn’t fit the bill.

The organization is still a long ways out from finalizing anything regarding the new stadium developments, as they have a handful of years to get things sorted out. As things stand, it seems like they are very fond of this Burnham Yard site, located a bit southeast of the current stadium off of I-25 and Sixth Avenue
