Broncos special teams coordinator to interview for a head-coaching job

The list of NFL teams interested in what the Denver Broncos are doing keeps on growing.

It makes sense after Denver had a dazzling 14-3 regular seed and is the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs.

And while Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph is getting the most looks to be an NFL head coach, two other assistants have joined the list.

QB coach Davis Webb will interview with the Raiders and Ravens, while special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi will now have a shot with the New York Giants.

Rizzi joined the Broncos this year in the special teams role after several seasons with Sean Payton in New Orleans. He was also the Saints’ interim coach for the last half of 2024, posting a 3-5 record.

Denver’s special teams got off to a shaky start in 2025, but Payton vehemently defended Rizzi. It’s worked out, as the Broncos have rebounded nicely. Wil Lutz has made several clutch kicks and Marvin Mims Jr. has delivered some key returns, among other highlights.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter also points out the Rizzi worked with Giants GM Joe Schoen for nearly a decade in Miami, so there’s a familiarity there.

For those keeping track at home, that’s now six interviews for Joseph, two for Webb and now one for Rizzi. Even if he doesn’t land the New York job, it’s a feather in the cap of the Broncos that Rizzi is getting an interview.
