Broncos running back J.K. Dobbins is clear he would’ve played in Super Bowl

Denver Broncos running back J.K. Dobbins would’ve played in the Super Bowl.

The problem is the team fell just short of that goal.

Dobbins revealed that on Monday when he met with the media, the day after the Broncos fell 10-7 to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game.

Dobbins had been out since suffering a Lisfranc injury Nov. 6 against the Las Vegas Raiders. He returned to practice this past week and his window to come off IR was opened, but the Broncos ruled him out a couple days before the showdown with the Patriots.

He also added that he’s a “Bronco for life” and wants to stay with the team. Dobbins will be a free agent this spring after joining Denver on a one-year deal worth a little more than $2 million last June.

The former Ohio State star rushed for 772 yards this season in only 10 games before the injury. He averaged 5.0 yards per carry and scored four touchdowns.

The Broncos definitely missed Dobbins down the stretch and throughout their playoff run. The running backs carried the football only 10 times against the Bills, but Denver pulled out an OT thriller.

However, with Bo Nix breaking his ankle and being out against the Patriots, backup Jarrett Stidham could’ve really used Dobbins. RJ Harvey went for only 37 yards on 13 carries and Jaleel McLaughlin had four carries for 11 yards.

We’ll see if the Broncos re-sign Dobbins in the next couple of months, but he was clearly the best back on the roster this season.

Injuries stink, and it hurts a little more to know he would’ve played in a Super Bowl that Denver won’t be taking part in.
