Denver Broncos rookie tight end Greg Dulcich is not on the field right now with his teammates.

You can tell it’s killing him.

Dulcich, battling a hamstring injury that has him working on a side field, met with the media after’s Friday’s practice. He wasn’t rude, but terse is an appropriate word to describe it.

“I’m just working to pretty much get back out there,” Dulcich told DenverFan Broncos senior writer Andrew Mason when asked if there had been a setback. Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett told the media on Wednesday the team would take it “slow” with Dulcich’s rehab.

“I’d obviously prefer to be out the practicing,” Dulcich said. “You’ve obviously got to take it day-by-day and take the steps that you can.”

Dulcich confirmed he suffered the injury in OTAs for the Broncos, and the issue is lingering. When asked when he’d be back on the field, he said “we’ll see.” When asked to elaborate a little more, Dulcich didn’t offer up any sort of timeline.

“Yeah, still working back into it. Making some good progress, so I’m happy with it so far,” Dulcich said.

With Eric Saubert standing out in a big way throughout camp so far, and Albert Okwuegbunam also in the mix, the Broncos third-round pick is quickly losing ground in the tight end race. Obviously, injuries are part of the game, but not being on the field is really hurting Dulcich.

It’s a situation that is worth monitoring, but for now, Dulcich is on the side field while other tight ends make significant progress with new QB Russell Wilson.
