Broncos raise more than $40,000 with Alzheimer’s awareness day at camp

During its Alzheimer’s Awareness Day on Saturday at UCHealth Training Center, the Denver Broncos helped raise more than $40,000, the team announced.

Fans online and in attendance, many wearing purple as a show of support for Alzheimer’s awareness, donated $20,307.15, which was matched by the club, to support the Alzheimer’s Association.

On Sunday, members of the Bowlen family presented the association with a check for $40,614.31.

“We are so appreciative of the Bowlen family, Joe Ellis and the Broncos, and ‘Broncos Country’ for their tremendous support of Alzheimer’s yesterday,” Amelia Schafer, executive director of Alzheimer’s Association — Colorado, said on Sunday.

“The turnout exceeded all of our expectations and made history as our single biggest fundraising day for Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Colorado.”

The annual “Walk to End Alzheimer’s,” which draws approximately 10,000 participants yearly, enters its 29th year in 2018 and will take place at City Park in Denver on Saturday, Sept. 15.

This year, the event aims to raise $1.35 million.

“Team Super Bowlen,” created in the wake of Broncos owner Pat Bowlen’s announcement that he’s been stricken with the disease, has raised more than $350,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association since 2014.
