Broncos make franchise history with six players earning All-Pro honors

The Broncos magical season continued during their postseason bye week, as their offense, defense and special teams were all honored

It’s been a special season for the Broncos. Denver finished with a 14-3 record, winning the AFC West and capturing the No. 1 seed in the conference. The magic carpet ride continued on Saturday morning, as the team made franchise history when the league announced this year’s All-Pro teams.

Not only did the Broncos tie a team record with six overall selections, they also matched a franchise mark with four players being named first-team All-Pro. It’s the first time Zach Allen, Garett Bolles and Devon Key received the honor; it’s the second time Quinn Meinerz has made the list.

That puts Meinerz in rarified air. He’s the first offensive lineman in Broncos history to earn first-team All-Pro honors in consecutive seasons. And he joins Ryan Clady and Tom Nalen in the group of Denver o-lineman who have been selected to the team on multiple occasions.

The group of players honored by the league shows why the Broncos have been so good this season. All three phases of the game are represented, with offense, defense and special teams players all being selected; that type of balance is how a team wins 14 games. And Denver showed strength in the trenches, with three of their six All-Pros being on the offensive and defensive lines; that’s where games are truly won.

It’s been a historic season for the Broncos, with the team matching a club record for regular-season wins and earning the top seed in the AFC for the ninth time. The goal of reaching a ninth Super Bowl is just two home wins away. And the dream of hoisting a fourth Lombardi Trophy no longer seems like a wild notion.

If Denver is going to reach the pinnacle, the record-setting six All-Pro selections will lead the way.
