Broncos make a couple moves to bolster special teams and offensive line

The Denver Broncos need help on special teams and the offensive line.

It sounds like they’re addressing both this week.

According to 9NEWS and 104.3 The Fan insider Mike Klis, the Broncos have signed J.T. Gray off the Ravens practice squad and added interior offensive lineman Karsen Barnhart.

Late to this but source confirms Broncos signed seven-year Saints special teamer J.T. Gray last night. Rizzi’s unit needs help, calls on player familiar with his system.

Per source, the Broncos have signed former Michigan and Chargers' practice squad guard/center Karsen Barnhart to their practice squad. Barnhart was part of a tryout group yesterday and he won the audition.

Gray was an All-Pro special teams player with the Saints three times in 2019, 2021 and 2024. He overlapped with Broncos head coach Sean Payton from 2018-2021 in New Orleans, so there’s familiarity there.

Denver special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi was also with the Saints from 2019 on so he knows Gray as well. The Broncos have been making a bunch of gaffes in that portion of the game, so clearly they feel Gray can contribute.

Meanwhile, Barnhart adds depth after left guard Ben Powers went on IR with partially torn biceps. Matt Peart started there against the Jets and committed multiple penalties.

The Broncos will get a glimpse of Barnhart in practice and decide if he’s eventually worth a promotion to the 53-man roster. The running gam versus New York wasn’t nearly as strong with Peart filling in for Powers.

Denver has yet to announce these moves, but will need to do some tweaking, both on the active roster and practice squad once they do. This story will be updated when the signings become official.

The Broncos have made those moves official, along with placing left guard Matt Peart on IR after only one start.
