Broncos leading AFC West and current No. 3 seed in playoffs

The Denver Broncos didn’t just earn a memorable win on Sunday.

They took over first place in the AFC West in the process.

Broncos Country is still on cloud nine after Denver rallied to stun the New York Giants with a wild fourth quarter comeback. The 33-32 victory has fans feeling like anything is possible.

And while that was going down, the Broncos were getting help in the division. The Los Angeles Chargers lost to the Indianapolis Colts 38-24 to fall to 4-3 on the season. L.A. has lost three of its last four games, while Denver has won four in a row to improve to 5-2.

As things currently stand, that’s good for the No. 3 seed in the AFC. The only teams ahead of the Broncos are the 6-1 Colts and surprising 5-2 Patriots due to a tiebreaker.

If the playoffs started today, Denver would host the No. 6 seed Chargers at Empower Field at Mile High. The Broncos haven’t had a home playoff contest since the AFC Championship Game against the Patriots a decade ago. Of course, they won that day on their way to a Super Bowl 50 championship.

However, there’s still a long ways to go, and the Kansas City Chiefs are lurking. K.C. has won four of its last five after smacking the Las Vegas Raiders 31-0 on Sunday. The Chiefs will play the Commanders on Monday Night Football this week while the Chargers welcome in the Vikings on Thursday.

The Broncos will be watching what Kansas City does, but need to focus on themselves. They’ve got the 3-3-1 Cowboys coming to town and Dallas has scored 27 or more points in each of its last four games.

Regardless, this is a great position for Denver to be in as October will flip to November soon. An AFC West title and hosting at least one postseason game absolutely feels realistic.
