ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Left guard Dalton Risner was of seven Broncos who did not practice Wednesday as the Broncos began their on-field preparations for the Las Vegas Raiders.

Risner injured his ankle last Sunday and is considered “day-to-day” heading into Sunday, Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett said.

“He went in and got it checked and came out and finished the game, which I thought was great,” Hackett said.

Joining Risner on the sideline Wednesday were wide receivers Tyrie Cleveland and Jonathon Cooper, edge rusher Randy Gregory, cornerback Darius Phillips, defensive lineman D.J. Jones and right tackle Billy Turner.

  • Cleveland and Cooper injured their hamstrings in practice Sept. 22 and did not play last Sunday.
  • Phillips injured his hamstring in the Week 2 win over Houston and has not practiced since then.
  • Gregory is being rested for Wednesday practices. He is expected to practice Thursday.
  • Jones is in the league-mandated post-concussion protocol following last Sunday’s game.

And then there is right tackle Billy Turner, a game-day scratch in each of the Broncos’ first three games this season. He practiced in each of the last three weeks.

“We’re just trying to get him over the hump,” Hackett said. “hat’s the best way to look at it. We just want him to come back and be strong and feel strong and confident.”

Nine players also saw limited work in Wednesday’s jog-through, no-helmet session:

  • Edge rusher Baron Browning
  • RB Melvin Gordon
  • WR Kendall Hinton
  • Safety P.J. Locke
  • RG Quinn Meinerz
  • Edge rusher Aaron Patrick
  • NT Mike Purcell
  • Safety Caden Sterns
  • Nickel CB K’Waun Williams

Also, defensive end Dre’Mont Jones is back to normal after suffering what he described as a “neck stinger” in practice last Thursday.

“It’s feeling good,” he said. “My neck was all sore and my [trapezius muscle] was [too]. But I’m all good now.”
