INDIANAPOLIS — Broncos offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi said Thursday that “we still feel there’s a real bright future” for running back Jaleel McLaughlin, even after deactivating the third-year running back this week.
But that future will have to wait at least one more game.
The Broncos deactivated McLaughlin for a second-straight game, once again making him a healthy scratch and the odd man out at running back.
Denver chose to activate Tyler Badie last week, with Lombardi citing Badie’s ability on third down and in pass protection as reasons why they chose to go with the running back.
It was a “tough decision,” Lombardi acknowledged.
“It’s hard to not have Jaleel up there on game day. But, yeah, it was mostly protection,” Lombardi said.”
The depth chart has Badie listed as the No. 3 running back back behind J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey.
The inactive list for the Broncos is the exact same as it was in Week 1:
• TE Nate Adkins
• OT Frank Crum
• QB Sam Ehlinger (emergency No. 3 QB)
• ILB Dre Greenlaw
• DE Sai’Vion Jones
• RB Jaleel McLaughlin
• Edge rusher Que Robinson
Saturday, the Broncos elevated fullback Adam Prentice and inside linebacker Garret Wallow from the practice squad. Prentice was elevated for the second-straight week; Wallow will make his Broncos debut; he last saw regular-season action in Week 18 of the 2023 campaign with the Tennessee Titans.
BRONCOS INACTIVES FROM PREVIOUS WEEKS
Week 1: TE Nate Adkins, OT Frank Crum, QB Sam Ehlinger (emergency No. 3 QB), ILB Dre Greenlaw, DE Sai’Vion Jones, RB Jaleel McLaughlin, Edge rusher Que Robinson
