Broncos claim ex-Ravens RB Justin Forsett, Kapri Bibbs to IR

The Denver Broncos, once again thin at the running back position, have made a move to bolster the groups depth, claiming former Baltimore Ravens running back Justin Forsett off waivers Monday.

The move comes after running back Kapri Bibbs left Sunday’s game with a high ankle sprain, which also landed him on injured reserve Monday to make room for Forsett on the 53-man roster.

Kubiak said earlier Monday that he and general manager John Elway always look to improve the team through free agency and waivers, but admitted the running back group, with Bibbs down, was “kind of thin.”

“It’s a concern right now. It has a lot to do with, “Can you play with two backs?’ Yeah, we’ve that,” Kubiak said. “Juwan was ready to go (Sunday). He actually got pushed into some service yesterday, and there was a period of the game where he was the only healthy guy we had.”

Forsett, 31, had his best season of his nine-year career in 2014 with Kubiak as his offensive coordinator with the Ravens, rushing for 1,266 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Denver will be Forsett’s seventh home after being waived by the Detroit Lions. He started the 2016 season with the Ravens before being released in October. He also played for Kubiak in Houston in 2012.
