ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — After missing the last four games due to a sprained ankle, wide receiver Pat Bryant was back at practice for the Broncos as they went inside the Pat Bowlen Fieldhouse to begin their on-field work in advance of Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.
Bryant suffered the injury at the end of a 30-yard catch-and-run late in the third quarter of the Broncos’ 24-14 Week 4 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He officially headed to injured reserve later that week, ensuring that he would miss at least four games due to the injury.
By sending him on the field for practice Wednesday, the Broncos started the clock on his potential return. Denver has a 21-day window to activate Bryant from injured reserve.
Bryant had 133 yards on nine receptions in the Broncos’ first four games this season. His average of 14.8 yards per catch leads the team. He also is tied with Jaylen Waddle for the team lead in receptions of 30 or more yards with two, in spite of missing half the season to date.
FOUR BRONCOS NOT ON THE FIELD WHEN PRACTICE BEGAN
The Broncos began practice with a quartet of players not on the field stretching with teammates when the session began. That group included three starters — and both first-team safeties.
Cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine, defensive lineman Enyi Uwazurike and safeties Talanoa Hufanga and Brandon Jones were not on the field with their teammates as the practice commenced. Abrams-Draine suffered an ankle injury in last Sunday’s win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Hufanga hasn’t played since Oct. 11, when he injured his ankle during the third quarter of the win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Jones landed on the injury report last week due to a hamstring problem, and then was limited to 24 snaps last Sunday before being ruled out due to the hamstring problem.
