Death, taxes and the Denver Broncos having injury problems throughout training camp.

This time, it’s edge rusher Nik Bonitto who’s been impacted by the bug, as he missed his second straight day of practice on Wednesday. After wreaking havoc against the San Francisco 49ers in a limited amount of reps on Saturday, Bonitto came off the field a bit gimpy with a foot injury.

After Tuesday’s practice, Broncos head coach Sean Payton was not too concerned with the injury and said that his star pass rusher should be back on the practice field soon. However, he did say that he would be practicing on Wednesday, which obviously didn’t end up becoming true.

“He’s doing fine,” Payton said Tuesday. “I anticipate him practicing tomorrow and this week. He should be in good shape.”

It’s not clear exactly what the issue in Bonitto’s foot is, but it’s been enough to hold him out of practice.

In Saturday’s contest, Bonitto finished with two QB hits and a sack. With a potential new contract on the line, Bonitto made sure to show the Broncos’ brass early on that his breakout season in 2024 wasn’t just a one-off fluke, it was the real deal. He was also ranked at No. 38 on the NFL’s top 100 list on Tuesday after not being ranked in 2024, a sign that he has the respect of the rest of the league and everyone else knows what he’s fully capable of.

Bonitto is just another name that has been added to the laundry list of Broncos players who have dealt with an injury in camp, including Dre Greenlaw, Alex Singleton, Drew Sanders and more. The defense, specifically the linebacker group, has not been able to catch a break.
