Bo Nix says Broncos got ‘hit in the mouth,’ but can’t let loss ‘linger’

Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix threw for 352 yards on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

And yet, the Broncos suffered their first loss of the season by more than a field goal.

Jacksonville came to Empower Field at Mile High and smacked Denver around in a 34-20 victory. Head coach Sean Payton said the Broncos weren’t good enough in all three phases of the game.

And Bo Nix took a similar tone in his postgame press conference after Denver saw it’s 11-game win streak snapped and fell to 12-3 on the season.

“It’s tough to go on an 11-game streak. And then, you know, we got hit in the mouth today and they played a good game,” Nix said.

Nix finished 28-47 through the air, but had only one touchdown and an interception. He also got charged with a fumble on a bad hand-off exchange between him and Jaleel McLaughlin.

For Nix, this loss stings, but he’s also aware of the point on the calendar it happened.

“We let it get away, but you’d rather have it hit you now than in the first-round of the playoffs. I wouldn’t call it a wake up call, because we were playing well, it’s just one of those that will reset you and get you back to where you need to be,” Bo Nix said.

And getting the Broncos back to where they need to be has to happen quick. Denver will take on Kansas City on Christmas night on Thursday. Nix is using this as a quick learning experience.

“It’ll put you in a good mindset if you’ll let it. And you can’t let this one linger, you’ve got to move on and attack this week on just a short couple days,” Nix said.

The Broncos still can win the AFC West and get the No. 1 seed if they win out. The Jaguars hit them in the mouth, now it’s up to Bo Nix and the rest of the team to punch back.
