Bo Nix says Broncos ‘don’t really care’ about being underdogs, worked last time

Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix has been a home underdog before.

And it worked out well.

The Broncos will host the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs on Saturday and many oddsmakers have the Bills as slight favorites.

Considering Denver is the No. 1 seed and Buffalo is the No. 6 seed, this appears a bit disrespectful on the surface. Especially because the game is at Empower Field at Mile High, a venue in which the Broncos have only lost one game all season.

After practice on Tuesday, Bo Nix was asked about if he and his teammates use the perceived slight as extra motivation.

“I mean, not really. We don’t really care. We’ve been underdogs before and probably will be again in the future. But I think good things happened to the last team that was an underdog,” Nix said with a wry smile.

He’s of course referring to Week 15 when the Green Bay Packers rolled into town as favorites. The Broncos beat them 34-26 and Bo Nix told Tracy Wolfson of CBS Sports that Denver is now the “overdogs.”

That viral moment has been a rallying cry for the fanbase and they’ll need it again this weekend. Denver and Buffalo matched up in the playoffs a year ago, but the game was in Orchard Park. That turned into a drubbing and Nix is glad this version is in the Mile High City.

“It’s obviously nice to be at home, it’s nice for that challenge to be on the other side,” Nix said. “Being able to use verbal cadence, being able to talk, being able to communicate. It’s going to be better for us at home.”

We’ll see if the next chapter in this postseason drama can go the Broncos way, but one thing is for sure: Bo Nix couldn’t care less about Denver being an underdog.
