Bo Nix made NFL history with ‘unbelievable’ Broncos comeback

No player in NFL history has ever done what Bo Nix did Sunday for the Denver Broncos and he accomplished the feat in a do-or-die situation.

Nix became the first player in NFL history to throw for two passing touchdowns and run for two touchdowns in the same quarter. It was part of the Broncos’ highest-scoring quarter in franchise history, tallying 33 points as Denver came back to beat the New York Giants 33-32.

Nix and the Broncos’ offense were lousy for much of the game, but went hyper mode a few minutes into the fourth quarter, turning a 0.2% chance of winning into an actual victory. Nix finished with 27 completions on 50 passes for two touchdowns and rushed it five more times for 48 yards and two more scores. Another key for Denver was Nix converting two two-point plays, making the quarterback responsible for 30 points. And he pushed the Broncos down the field one more time with less than 40 seconds left to set up Wil Lutz’ 39-yard field goal.

“I felt bad for the people that left early,” a sly Nix told CBS after the game. “A complete team effort in the fourth quarter. It was really bad there at a point, the morale was low but guys never quit and next thing you know Lutz is kicking a game-winner. I can’t believe it, I haven’t had one like that. But I love our team.”

The biggest play of the game likely wasn’t from Bo but a big-time interception from Justin Strnad that came exactly when the team needed it most, late in the fourth quarter, down two scores.

“It started with us scoring the first time, the defense got a few stops, they scored and it didn’t look good again. But the interception is probably what did it, gave us a short field and then we rallied and kept scoring,” Nix said.
