DENVER BRONCOS

After the 2021 season is when things should turnaround for the Broncos

With the franchise's ownership in limbo, it doesn't make sense to start over at GM, head coach and quarterback after this season

Broncos Country doesn’t want to hear or watch their team miss the playoffs for another season. But the truth is, the fans have to be patient.

Nothing will likely change until the trust of the Broncos sells the team.

According to multiple sources that I spoke with, the Broncos can be sold at anytime and that includes before the July 2021 court date. I was also told that team president Joe Ellis is tired of all of the drama that occurs behind the scenes and is ready to move on.

It also wouldn’t make any sense to fire and hire another head coach under John Elway because what if the new owner doesn’t like that head coach? It also wouldn’t make sense to fire Elway and have a new general manager for just one year because what if the new owner doesn’t like the general manager?

Same with the quarterback position! Is Elway going to keep his job, fire Vic Fangio, hire a new head coach and draft another quarterback, all while he’s in the final year of his contract with the team? If those examples happen, it would set the franchise back even further if they don’t work out. And quite frankly, the track record for Elway doesn’t look good.

Fangio doesn’t seem to be the long-term answer at head coach, but the word is that he will keep his job heading into the 2021 season. Fangio’s defense played better against the Chiefs, but still not good enough to get a win. Fangio has done a fine job working with his defense while battling through the virus, as well as injuries, but his offense has struggled.

There have been plenty of issues on offense for the Broncos, but Fangio has struggled to help find a way for them to succeed with Pat Shurmur as the offensive coordinator. It’s unlikely Fangio will get a second contract with the Broncos.

If Drew Lock can close out these next four games in exciting fashion and give Denver some hope, he’ll get the chance to be the starter in 2021. Not only would he be able to start, but Elway could possibly get another contract and prove to everyone that he can find a quarterback.

Elway can also take a walk off and tell the fans that his contract is up and he’s walking away, but he put the team in good hands at quarterback. Quite frankly, a lot of the team’s success will depend on Lock’s development. If Lock isn’t the guy after 2021, the new general manager and head coach will be finding the next quarterback of the Broncos.

It makes more sense for the team to be sold, let the contracts of Ellis, Elway, and Fangio run out after 2021, and allow the new owner of the Broncos to reset the franchise and start all over.

The logic is to allow the next team owner to step in, reset everything and rebuild the franchise the way it needs to be rebuilt by hiring a new president, general manager, head coach and possibly a new quarterback. Once all of the pieces fall in a straight line, Denver will be back to its winning ways.
