Clayton: Indicators now point to Rodgers staying in Green Bay

After spending the offseason saying Aaron Rodgers would hold out into the season to force his way out of the Green Bay Packers, I’ve changed my mind.

I think he will stay a Packer this year and might even report to training camp on time. That would end hopes of the Broncos getting him in a trade. Now you see why it’s hard to make predictions.

Training camp is 11 days away, but the closer we get the more you here from the people Rodgers has been around. Former Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk, a close friend, was with him last week. They were golfing, and Hawk said, “I still feel like he’s going to be in Green Bay.”

Peyton Manning said recently that he didn’t think the Broncos would be able to get him in a trade.

Back to Hawk. He didn’t say for sure that Rodgers would report to camp. In fact, he didn’t say for sure he was going to play this season.

“I don’t see him playing anywhere else, right?” Hawk said. “I don’t see that happening. I don’t know how it has to work, but yeah, I still feel like he’s going to be in Green Bay.’’

More and more reporters are getting the feeling he’s going to stay in Green Bay and could show up to camp on July 27. Rodgers has been out in public at a lot of golf courses in which media has been there. At “The Match,” when asked about what he’s going to do this season, he said, “We’ll see.” Then he came out and said he’ll make a decision after thinking about it for two weeks.

Plus, he loves the play the game. Now, I don’t see a trade happening. Plus, the Packers remain adamant they aren’t trading him.
