Shedeur Sanders celebrates Deion’s stunning Buffs upset in Atlanta

Days after losing the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback job to Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders found his way to Bobby Dodd Stadium — not to play, but to watch his old team coached by his dad open the season without him.

He was first spotted by CBS News Colorado’s Romi Bean walking on the sideline in the third quarter. By that point, the Colorado Buffaloes and redshirt freshman Juju Lewis were trailing Georgia Tech 10-7 in an ugly, mistake-filled game. If only Shedeur had been out there to break the game open.

But even just being there, maybe Lewis got some of Sanders’ comeback magic that we saw against Baylor and Colorado State. Sanders was seen standing behind Lewis on the sideline and at one point shook the young quarterback’s hand. When Lewis led a stunning last-minute touchdown drive to give Colorado a 14-13 lead — and Boo Carter blocked a 45-yard field goal at the buzzer to seal it — Shedeur was on the field happy with Buffs players in the chaos of the celebration.

Shedeur then walked off the field arm in arm with his dad Coach Prime. Father and son were soaking in a win for the black and gold.

“I love fatherhood,” Deion said through tears after the game.

Before they walked off the field, a Georgia Tech fan let them hear it on their way out. They kept walking.

“This is gonna be a wonderful flight,” Coach Prime said after the game, noting his team didn’t have any fun flights home in 2025 after going 0-5 on the road.

Shedeur wasn’t having the best few weeks in Cleveland despite outplaying Watson. He could’ve wallowed in losing the job but it was good to see him return to support the school which retired his legendary number.

What’s next: Colorado’s home opener is next week at Folsom Field, hosting Weber State. The Browns open their season Sept. 7 at Jacksonville, with Watson under center and Shedeur on the sideline.
