Deion Sanders says Eli Manning lied about Travis Hunter’s practice schedule

Deion Sanders shot down Eli Manning's report that Travis Hunter didn't practice any offense during his two years with the Colorado Buffaloes

Travis Hunter was a unicorn at the University of Colorado. When he took the field for the Buffaloes, he was instantly the best player on the field, no matter if he was on offense or defense. The two-way star took the college football world by storm last year, and his historic season netted him the Heisman Trophy along with a handful of other prestigious awards to fill Hunter’s trophy case like no other athlete in history.

On top of the Heisman, he won the Walter Camp, Chuck Bednarik, Fred Biletnikoff, Ronnie Lott and Paul Hornung awards, along with being a unanimous All-American and establishing himself as the record holder in a handful of categories for Colorado. How was he able to pull off those accomplishments with the same amount of practice time as his teammates?

Hunter would have certain planned rest days in the week to allow his body to recoup from playing an excessive amount of snaps on Saturdays, and on the days he did practice, he would trade off between the offense and defense throughout practice. However, that memo didn’t make its way to Eli Manning, who claimed during Monday night’s “Manningcast” that Hunter didn’t practice at all with the CU offense. That claim, obviously, is false, and there is plenty of evidence on the internet to prove so.

On Tuesday, Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders was asked about Manning’s claim regarding Hunter’s practice schedule. He instantly shot it down.

“That was a lie,” Sanders abruptly said. “Travis Hunter played offense and defense. He started out with the 1’s offense going the first four or five reps, then he went over and played defense the next four or five reps, and he did it the whole practice. You know, we have Well Off Media and Reach the People [filming practice], and then Neely. Come on, man.”

He harped on the fact that the information was not hard to obtain, and ESPN color commentator Troy Aikman reached out to Sanders to get some clarity on the rumor that was being spread about Hunter’s role at practice.

“Troy [Aikman] called me before the game, and he got that information and I gave him because he had the same information — misinformation — and I gave him the truth,” Sanders said. “I don’t know why people lie. Why do you do that kind of stuff?”

He clearly wasn’t happy that Manning didn’t do his research.

The talk surrounding Hunter was happening because he and the Jaguars were playing on ESPN on Monday. Hunter posted his best game as a pro to date with 64 receiving yards, two tackles and a pass deflection, while playing 39 snaps on offense and 25 on defense. The Jaguars took down the Chiefs, 28-24.
