Ryan Staub has been the talk of Boulder since he lit up Folsom Field in Colorado’s win over Delaware on Saturday. He injected life into a wavering Colorado offense that was showing no signs of life midway through the game, and asserted himself as a potential suitor for the starting quarterback job going forward.

The redshirt sophomore who has been the backup to Shedeur Sanders the last two seasons had the student section chanting his name on Saturday and even threw up his wrist like Sanders did all the time in his two years in Boulder.

Since the big moment that changed the landscape of CU’s season, Staub has heard from many people, one of them being the man he backed up for so long.

“[Shedeur]’s talked to him as well. He called him and they conversated as well,” Coach Prime said during his weekly press conference on Tuesday.

Prime also emphasized that Staub is loved by so many people around him, and had plenty more people reach out.

“First of all, you’ve got to understand, Staub is a lovable dude, man. Everybody who’s played here previously has reached out to him and congratulated him or some way or another, tweeted him or done something to let him know how proud they are. Because, he’s always been the stand up guy. No matter who’s starting, he’s always been there in support. He’s not going to be one of those guys who, somebody else is starting, he’s sitting on the bench mad, sulking. He’s not built like that. He’s going to be there in support and make sure you’re prepared… he’s going to give you everything he has.”

The reactions from Staub’s teammates on the sideline in Saturday’s win confirmed that statement as well. Everyone was hyping him up, congratulating him and showing their support for their quarterback.

Now, all heads turn to Friday, as Prime has a tough decision to make with his quarterback room. He said on Tuesday that he doesn’t want to keep playing musical chairs, but didn’t confirm reports that Staub would be starting the conference opener against Houston.
