The Colorado Buffaloes released their first injury report under the Big 12 Conference’s new player availability reporting policy. Looking at the list, one would think that CU just got done fighting a war overseas.

There are an astonishing 19 Buffaloes on the injury report after just two weeks of action. While Coach Prime has only talked about two of the 19 injuries — albeit to two of the most important offensive players — the report raises a red flag heading into conference play.

One of the bright spots on the list is that wide receiver Omarion Miller and running back Dallan Hayden are both listed as questionable. Miller missed Week 2 with a hamstring injury that he suffered in the season opener, while Hayden has yet to put his pads on due to a hand injury he suffered in fall camp. Prime provided an update on the two during his weekly media availability on Tuesday.

“Omarion [Miller] I don’t know if we’re going to see him this week. Dallan [Hayden] worked his butt off this week. He’s closer to being seen than Omarion,” he said.

Miller was only targeted once in the loss against Georgia Tech before he pulled up gimpy in the second half. He caught that lone target for 39 yards up the sideline before half time to put the Buffs in field goal range. He’s got the tools to be one of the best wideouts in the country, but has been limited by injuries and/or playing time throughout his career.

There are quite a few notable names who are out for Week 3’s conference opener: cornerback Teon Parks, edge rusher Samuel Okunlola and backup lineman Phillip Houston. Okunlola is the most important name of the bunch with his ability to complement Keaten Wade and Arden Walker off the edge, while Parks saw some action at corner in Week 1. Houston is a depth piece in the offensive line room who knows the system because he’s been around for longer than most of the guys in the room.

Simeon Price, Tawfiq Byard, Makari Vickers and Martavius French are all names to watch out for as well. Price and French have established themselves as key contributors to open the season (Price: 85 rushing yards, French: 11 tackles), while Byard and Vickers are two talented defensive backs who have made some plays in limited action.

For Houston, the injury report is much cleaner than the Buffs. One notable name is J’Marion Burnette, a wide receiver who has one catch for 39 yards and a touchdown.

The Buffs and Cougars are required to submit updates after their practices this week by no later than 9:00 p.m. CDT on the respective day.
