The time is almost here, Buffs fans! The Colorado Buffaloes are just a week away from kicking off the third season of the Coach Prime era at CU, a season that will be a big test for the program to see how serious they are about contending for a Big 12 Championship.

For fans who are making their way to Folsom Field next Friday to see Colorado take on Georgia Tech, there will be a lot of new features around the stadium that will aim to make the gameday experience much more pleasant for all. Anyone who has been to a game at Folsom Field recently knows that there are plenty of things that could be improved outside of the turf at the historic stadium that is entering its 102nd season of service.

Improvements to the stadium kicked off with the installation of a new artificial turf playing surface back in the spring, and have now shifted to the concourse and the broader fan experience. CU Athletic Director Rick George said that the university is “committed to providing a top-notch experience for every fan that comes to a game.”

The two most exciting changes this year will be a drone show against BYU on Sept. 27 and a military flyover against Georgia Tech and Arizona (Nov. 1). A possibility for more flyovers was not ruled out.

Other new things to look out for at Folsom Field this year include “enhanced” team entrance features, new fan engagements on the video board, a rebranded student section, mobile parking for donor lot permit holders, a new tailgate area on Benson Field and updates to Black & Gold upgrades. For those who aren’t familiar, Black & Gold upgrades feature special fan experiences such as a pregame photo on the 50-yard line.

Another positive change for fans comes with the concessions. New food and beverage options at Folsom this year are: Blackjack Pizza, Flavor of Tabasco, gourmet hot dogs, chicken and veggie tamales, a chicken salad sandwich and multiple tater tot concepts will be present around the concourse and plaza outside.

The university has also eliminated single-use plastic beverage bottles, added a “round up” feature on concession purchases that support scholarships from CU Athletics and changed the makeup of food vendors so 70% of partners working at Folsom are minority or women-owned.

While these changes aren’t the renovations that fans have been asking for over recent years (new restrooms, wider concourses), they’re all features that should somewhat improve the gameday experience. Something to note in this new era of NIL and college athletics, there are clearly more ways for fans to support the program and give money back to the Buffs in all of this.
