CU Buffs back on FOX in primetime for Texas Tech matchup

Even after stinking up the joint this past Saturday on FOX in primetime, the network wants to run it back with the Colorado Buffaloes.

The Big 12 announced Monday that Colorado’s Oct. 3 matchup against No. 11 Texas Tech will kick off at 5:30 p.m. MT on FOX, giving the Buffs a primetime stage for their conference home opener at Folsom Field.

It will be Colorado’s second appearance on the network in three weeks after Saturday’s 41-7 loss at Northwestern, a game in which four turnovers and nine penalties buried the Buffs and prompted a fiery postgame news conference from Deion Sanders. Colorado dropped to 2-1.

Texas Tech, meanwhile, enters as one of the hottest teams in the Big 12. The Red Raiders escaped with a 28-26 win over then-No. 22 Houston on Friday night to open conference play and improve to 3-0 on the season. Quarterback Will Hammond threw for 257 yards, and the Red Raiders’ rushing attack powered a second-half comeback that kept their Big 12 title defense on track.

The two programs have met just once since Colorado’s return to the conference, with the Buffs earning a victory in Lubbock during the 2024 season.

Before the Red Raiders, the Buffs open Big 12 play on the road at Baylor on Saturday, with an 10 a.m. MT kickoff on ESPN2. Sanders made clear after the Northwestern debacle that his team needs to flush the loss quickly heading into league play.

“Not that this game don’t matter. It matters. It matters a lot,” Sanders said Saturday. “Because you expose some liabilities on the film and they’re going to take advantage of that.”
