The Colorado Buffaloes made headlines in the week following their 24-21 loss to BYU in Week 5 for reasons that had nothing to do with the on-field performance. The university was fined $50,000 and publicly reprimanded following the game due to insensitive chants that rang down from the Buffs’ crowd at Folsom Field all throughout the contest.
The university issued a public statement, and Deion Sanders went out of his way to apologize on behalf of the school and emphasize that that’s not who the Colorado students — who were the main culprits behind the chants — are.
Sanders’ Buffaloes are returning to Boulder this Saturday to take on No. 22 Iowa State in another pivotal conference clash. For fans heading up to watch the black and gold compete in person, they will notice a few things that are different in the stands.
Colorado announced on Monday that there will be an increase in security personnel throughout the stadium, streamlined communication between fans and security personnel, an increase in security response teams, new technology to monitor fan activity in the stadium and undercover police officers scattered throughout the crowd.
“It is our goal to make Folsom Field a welcoming and inclusive place for every fan and your cooperation is appreciated,” the university said in the release.
There was no specification on how large the increase in personnel would be, just that there would be some kind of an increase.
Kickoff for Saturday’s game in Boulder is set for 1:30 p.m. MDT. The university’s Fan Code of Conduct can be found here.
