CU Buffs choke to Ga Tech in Coach Prime’s Year 3 opener

The Colorado Buffaloes’ opening game of the 2025 season came down to the wire against Georgia Tech, losing late on a quarterback run.

The Yellow Jackets turned it over three times in the first quarter, but Deion Sanders’ group only managed seven points out of those bounces. It kept the contest close, and neither team would ever lead by more than seven points. The game’s quarterbacks traded second-half rushing touchdowns, with the CU Buffs‘ Kaidon Salter tying it at 20-20 with over eight minutes to play.

But both teams traded punts, giving Tech the ball with a chance to win.

That’s when Haynes King broke free again for a second rushing touchdown after halftime, scampering for a 45-yard touchdown with 67 seconds left to give the Yellow Jackets a 27-20 lead after the extra point.

King ran it 19 times for 156 yards with three rushing touchdowns on the night.

The Buffs responded via a struggle to manage the clock and were left with a 50-yard heave to try to win it. The Buffs lost 27-20, their first opening loss under Coach Prime. The Buffs already missed Shedeur Sanders’ perfect timing magic in their first game without the head coach’s son.
