Tad Boyle confirms he will return to Buffs for another season

Tad Boyle will be on the CU Buffs sideline for at least one more year.

The CU Buffs men’s basketball coach confirmed to Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68 that he would be back for the 2025-26 season, squelching any speculation that he would retire after a wretched season that has been the worst of his 15 seasons in Boulder.

Colorado coach Tad Boyle told @TheFieldOf68 that he will be back next season.

The Buffs’ reintroduction to Big XII play this season was rough, as they started 0-13 in conference play en route to a 3-17 finish.

CU briefly had high hopes in November after upsetting two-time defending national champion UConn 73-72 in the consolation bracket of the Maui Invitational and eventually finished conference play 9-2. But conference play began and the defeats accumulated before the Buffs finally beat Central Florida 76-63 to stop the losing streak.

They salvaged Senior Day on Saturday at the CU Events Center with a 76-56 win over TCU to gain some momentum headed into the Big XII tournament, which starts Tuesday in Kansas City, Mo.

But barring a miracle to end all miracles, the Buffs will finish with their first 20-loss season in 17 years, since a 12-20 finish under Jeff Bzdelik in the 2007-08 campaign.

This season’s collapse comes after one of the high points under Boyle, a 26-11 campaign that culminated in a pair of NCAA Tournament wins before the Buffs bowed out with an 81-77 loss to Marquette in the second round of last year’s Big Dance.

CU has qualified for the NCAA Tournament six times in Boyle’s 15 seasons after making the field five times in the previous half-century. The Buffs also have more 20-win seasons under Boyle (10) than their other coaches combined (four).
