No. 10 Buffs to Alamo Bowl highlights Front Range bowl berths
Three Front Range universities learned its fate come bowl season on Sunday, as football teams across the country paired off for matchups over the next month.
After coming up short of a Pac-12 Championship bid on Friday, the Colorado Buffaloes slipped to No. 10 in the College Football Playoff rankings, below USC and out of a potential Rose Bowl berth with it.
Instead, the Buffs will head to San Antonio to take on former Big 12 foe Oklahoma State in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29.
It’ll be CU’s first bowl game since 2007, and its 29th overall in school history, according to the program’s website.
Up in Fort Collins, the Colorado State Rams prepare to venture even further north to Boise to take on the Idaho Vandals in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Dec. 22.
CSU finished fifth in the Mountain division of the Mountain West in 2015 (sixth overall in the 12-team conference) and will be playing its first bowl game in Idaho in school history.
The team just above the Rams in the Mountain division standings, the Air Force Falcons will also be bowling this season, being selected for the Nova Home Loans Arizona Bowl on Dec. 30.
Winners of its last five games, the Falcons will take on South Alabama in just the second Arizona Bowl ever.
