Nikola Jokic has the third-most votes for the NBA All-Star game as of now, as the first fan results were shared on Monday. The bigger news for Denver Nuggets fans is the positioning of Jamal Murray.

Jokic is second in the West’s voting behind Luka Doncic and a shoo-in to be an All-Star starter for a sixth-straight year. The three-time MVP is the current favorite to win that award, averaging a 30-point triple-double per game while leading the NBA in both rebounding and assists.

Meanwhile, Murray is 14th in West voting and is unlikely to be voted in as a starter, but his high amount of votes shows his great chance to make the game. The ninth-year Nugget has never participated in the event. This year, he’s got career highs in points, rebounds and assists per game while shooting at the best clip of his career. Murray currently ranks 16th in points, 12th in assists and has the sixth-best shooting percentage in the league.

But Murray’s nod will likely have to come down to coaches and players. And because there’s a new format for the game this year with two teams of eight Americans and one eight-man team of international stars, there could be a squeeze on the Blue Arrow. Meaning anyone who gets voted in that should not be in this year’s game hurts Murray’s chances.

Funny enough, the main player who could do this is the legendary LeBron James. The Los Angeles Lakers star has been limited to 14 games this year by injury and his stats were already on the fringe. Though LeBron’s fame could get him voted in. The fact that he’s only eighth and over 200,000 votes behind the deserving Victor Wembanyama is a good sign for Murray.

Doncic, Jokic and Wembanyama are joined by Steph Curry and Shai Gilgious-Alexander as the five highest vote-getters in the West. Giannis Antetokounmpo paces the East as Tyrese Maxey, Jalen Brunson, Cade Cunningham and Donovan Mitchell round out the top five.
