Michael Porter Jr. says he could return for Nuggets against the Warriors

After being throttled 123-107 by the Warriors in game one of their playoff series, the Nuggets could use all the help they can get. Plenty of discussion has focused on Jamal Murray, as he’s been medically cleared and the decision to play is his alone. However, could it be the other missing member of the Nuggets “big three” that returns first?

Talking to ESPN, Michael Porter Jr. certainly didn’t close the door on playing against Golden State.

“Right now, I’m taking it game by game. This is a thing I don’t ever want to deal with again, so I’m just taking my time. … I’m playing it game by game. Every morning I wake up and I know I’m feeling good. Every day I’m getting closer,” Porter said.

“MPJ” has been out of the Nuggets lineup since November. He underwent back surgery in December, his third such surgery in four years. Porter told ESPN he suffered a setback in his rehab, delaying a return that was expected in March.

“I was feeling pretty good. Feeling ready to go. I was ready to step back up. Just got a tiny bit sore, so I realize about a month ago that I was good, but I was pushing myself too hard to get back. I can do anything. I have no restrictions. But when I got back to playing full speed and doing everything, that’s when I just got a little sore. So, I just decided that if I feel perfect, I’m going to come back. If not, I’m going to take my time,” he said.

The Nuggets committed to Porter in the off-season with a five-year, $207 million max extension. Now, could the 23-year-old help return the favor to his team by making a surprise comeback to give the Nuggets a lift against the Warriors?
