Report: Anthony Edwards out ‘weeks,’ will miss rest of Nuggets series

The Denver Nuggets will attempt to erase a 3-1 deficit against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but won’t face superstar Anthony Edwards the rest of the series.

That news was dropped by ESPN’s Shams Charania on Sunday morning, a devastating blow to the Wolves who will be without Edwards for “weeks.”

Anthony Edwards suffered the bone bruise and hyperextension late in the first half of Game 4 and didn’t return the rest of the contest. However, the Nuggets collapsed in the second half, getting outscored by the Wolves by 20 points in an embarrassing 112-96 loss.

Minnesota also lost Donte DiVincenzo on Saturday to a torn Achilles and he’s done for the season and deep into next year as well.

Both injuries made the Denver defeat that much more perplexing, but they let Ayo Dosunmu go crazy for 43 points off the Timberwolves bench. 

The oddsmakers still give the Nuggets a decent shot to win three games in a row and steal the series — and it makes sense — given that Minnesota won’t have Anthony Edwards or DiVincenzo as options moving forward. If the Wolves advance, Edwards could perhaps return at some point in Round 2.

Injuries stink, but this is the reality of the situation. We’ll see if the Nuggets have any heart and fight left in them or if they just rollover and call it a season.

Game 5, an elimination contest, is set for late Monday night at Ball Arena.
