Nikola Jokic’s name now tops NBA triple-double record books

DENVER — With Nikola Jokic’s performance during the Denver Nuggets Game 5 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, he tied Russell Westbrook in the league’s record book for most triple-doubles in NBA history when combining regular season and postseason totals.

It was the 221st triple-double of Jokic’s career; he tallied 27 points, 11 rebounds and 16 assists. It’s just another entry in the remarkable history Jokic continues to author.

Jokic still sits in second place in regular season history, trailing just Westbrook. Given the pace Joker has been on the past few years, a healthy season from Big Honey would likely move him past Westbrook on that leaderboard next year — even if the guard plays another season.”

Jokic’s stat-sheet dominance hasn’t been as common in this first-round series, but the breakthrough for the Nuggets on Monday means there will be a Game 6. And Jokic could add another feat to his record, coming back from down 3-1 three times. He did so twice in the bubble. Against the banged-up Wolves the Nuggets have strong odds to do it again.

If Jokic tops Westbrook’s mark and records 222 on Thursday, the Nuggets will be in a solid spot to send this series back to Denver for Game 7 on Saturday.
