Nikola Jokic picks up second consecutive Player of the Week nod

Is it possible to become numb to greatness? With the way Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic has performed in recent years, it sure seems like it. He’s been a walking triple double since the turn of the decade, has consistently been atop the MVP race and has had the Nuggets in a position to compete or a championship eery single season.

It seems that Jokic sets a new record and does something that has been don since Wilt Chamberlain in the 1960s every single week. Every time he has a triple double, it’s just another night as the Nuggets work towards winning another championship with the Serbian superstar leading the charge.

While Nuggets Nation has possibly grown numb to his greatness (which isn’t a bad thing), the rest of the NBA hasn’t, and has continued to take note of the historic performances he’s put up at the start of the season. For the second straight week, he was named as the Western Conference Player of the Week following another out-of-this-world stretch of games.

One could argue it was a down week for the Joker, since he didn’t average a triple double, but he did tally nearly 40 points per game, highlighted by his historically-efficient double-nickel against the Clippers. He also hedged the Nuggets to a victory over the Sacramento Kings and a big win on the road against the Minnesota Timberwolves throughout the week. The Nuggets finished with a 3-0 record on the short road trip.

This nomination doesn’t count his 36/18/13 triple double he put up in a losing effort against the Chicago Bulls on Monday night. While some would call it a poor shooting night for the big man, 13-of-27 from the field and just 1-of-7 from distance, he still put up a stat line that only Luka Doncic and Giannis Antetokounmpo can come close to.

This is the 19th time that Jokic has been nominated for this award. As long as he doesn’t totally do a 180 in the coming weeks to close out November, it’s likely that he’ll bring home the Player of the Month Award given he’s already won half of the POTW nominations.
