Rockies social brags about improving to 38 games under .500

Most would say act like you have been there before, but the Colorado Rockies haven’t been — not only winning a series but sweeping one on Wednesday for the first time in ages.
Now at 12-50, getting even three wins in a week is above pace at this point. It had been so bad lately that from May 4 to June 1, the Rockies had just three wins, which is the same number as golfer Scottie Scheffler, which was pointed out in a viral post over the weekend.
Scheffler had won a competition in Texas, going into the PGA Championship major, which he won. And he won again last weekend at the Memorial Tournament. The No. 1 golfer in the world is on a heater, winning three tournaments in a month. At the same time, the Rockies are headed for one of the worst seasons in Major League history. Where Scheffler only played four events, the Rockies play almost every single day, making the stat so much more embarrassing.
And yet the Rockies’ social media account punched back on Wednesday after the team wrapped up a sweep against the last-place Marlins. Poking fun at the post from the weekend they wrote that they now have three more wins than Scheffler’s zero since June 2. Of course, golfers don’t play during the week, so Scheffler has not been in competition. And the only thing the Rockies are in competition with is the record books.
So over 25 games out of first place the Rockies in June, the Rockies’ social media account is out here bragging about winning and making jokes.
This may be funny to some, and apparently it is to the Rockies. But it is the latest example to Denver how unserious the franchise is.
Like, congrats y’all, you beat a last-place team three times in a row, and you can post a meme. That last-place team? They’re fewer games out of first place in the NL East than you are out of fourth place in the NL West.
Do you think now is the time for jokes? Do you think the New York Yankees or St. Louis Cardinals would be making jokes about wins while their fans wear brown paper bags to games and beg for their owner to sell the team?
The residents of Colorado worked extremely hard for decades to land an MLB team and cement Denver as a big league city. We’re still waiting for that club; everything the Rockies do, even when they win, is minor league.
Tune back in on Friday when the Rockies will look to stay hot and score a 13th win to their 50 losses. Maybe we’ll throw the Rockies a parade later this year, certainly a third-straight 100-loss season is worthy of one — just look up charivari.
