Rockies chilled by Dodgers to fall for seventh time in eight games

Rockies Report, Game 20:

ROCKIES BOTTOM LINE: Tyler Glasnow baffled the Rockies, limiting them to a run on two hits over seven innings as the Dodgers pounded Colorado 7-1 on a chilly Friday night to open a four-game series and a seven-game Coors Field homestand.

It marked the third time in their last five games that the Rox were held to three or fewer runs. Colorado has averaged 2.9 runs per game in its last eight contests.

Los Angeles did its damage with jabs, rather than through a single big blow or a crushing inning. The Dodgers scored in each of the first five frames — one run in each of the first, second and fourth innings with a pair of runs in the first and fifth. Max Muncy clubbed a pair of homers.

Colorado’s only run came in the fourth inning, as the Rox cashed in on Mickey Moniak’s leadoff double. A pair of groundouts moved him over and drove him home, with Troy Johnston delivering the RBI that brought the Rockies back within 5-1.

Los Angeles quickly added to its lead in the fifth and the Rockies didn’t threaten after that.

Colorado fell to 7-13.

ROCKIES STARTER’S REPORT

Tomoyuki Sugano’s fourth start in a Rockies uniform was his roughest one to date, as the Dodgers knocked him around from the jump, starting with Shohei Ohtani’s leadoff double in the first inning. Kyle Tucker moved him over and Will Smith drove him via a sacrifice fly, putting the Rox in chase mode.

Sugano allowed at least one run in each of his four innings before Zach Agnos relieved him to open the fifth. The leadoff batter reached base in three of Sugano’s four innings as the Dodgers drove up his pitch count; he labored through 91 pitches.

Muncy’s second-inning home run extended Sugano’s streak of games in which he’s allowed at least one home run to 10, dating back to last Aug. 25.

BITS AND PIECES

IT WAS DECIDED FOR THE ROCKIES WHEN: Muncy tacked on his second home run of the night in the fifth inning, pushing Los Angeles’ advantage to 6-1. The Rockies didn’t advance a baserunner beyond second base after that.

NUMBER TO NOTE: 6 — Number of times the Rockies have scored exactly one run this season. With six such games, Colorado is tied for second in MLB in games with one or fewer runs; only the New York Mets are worse (seven).
