Orlando Arcia got a hit in his Rockies debut, but it was far from enough as Colorado was swept for the ninth time this season.

Rockies Report, Game 56:
ROCKIES BOTTOM LINE: Tanner Gordon was felled by a big swing against a pitch that did exactly what he wanted it to do.
His 0-1 curveball to Chicago’s Pete Crow-Armstrong in the fourth inning dove low and below the strike zone. But Crow-Armstrong turned on it and smashed it into the right-field seats, delivering a solo shot that ended up being the difference, putting the Cubs up 2-0 en route to dealing Colorado a 2-1 defeat.

It marked the third consecutive year that the Cubs have swept Colorado at Wrigley Field. This was also the ninth time Colorado has been swept in 18 series this year.
Runs were at a premium throughout the series with the wind blowing in at Wrigley Field; Colorado mustered just five in the series.
Colorado’s only run came in the sixth inning. Mickey Moniak led off the frame iwht a single, then advanced to third when Cubs pitcher Matthew Boyd delivered an awkward, almost sidearmed attempt at a pickoff throw that sailed past first baseman Michael Busch, off the wall and into right field.
Tyler Freeman then drove the ball to the left-center field warning track for a deep, run-scoring sacrifice fly.
The Rox dropped to 9-47. Even if they finish .500 over their final 106 games, they would still endure their third consecutive 100-loss season.
ROCKIES STARTER’S REPORT
Relieved after 4 2/3 innings Wednesday night, Gordon didn’t go as long as he did in his two previous starts against Detroit and the New York Yankees, when he went at least six innings each time. He struck out one and did not issue a walk, displaying good command.
Gordon allowed six hits and officially took the loss, but appears to have displayed enough to earn future turns in the rotation.
BITS AND PIECES
IT WAS DECIDED FOR THE ROCKIES WHEN: Hunter Goodman swung and missed to secure the final out of the game. It was Colorado’s 11th strikeout of the night; Chicago had just three.
ROCKIES NUMBER TO NOTE: Minus-4 – The run differential over the course of the series, which was by far the best in any of the nine series sweeps absorbed by the Rockies this season.
Heading into this series, the Rockies’ average run differential when swept this season was minus-11.8. Close losses are a sign of progress, one would hope.
NOTES: Orlando Arcia was the designated hitter in his first game with the Rox and went 2-for-3 … The bottom four spots in the order — Ryan McMahon, Arcia, Michael Toglia and Moniak — went 5-for-15; each of them had at least one hit. The top five spots went 1-for-18.
WHAT’S NEXT: A day off before returning to action Friday night at Citi Field against the New York Mets. Kyle Freeland will start as he searches for his first win of the season. He no longer officially has the worst ERA in baseball as he dropped below the qualifying threshold in innings pitched since his last start. First pitch is at 5:10 p.m. MDT.
