Rockies win home finale with Freeland’s quality start

ROCKIES BOTTOM LINE: Blaine Crim continued his profound predilection for run production, delivering a pair of RBI — including his fourth homer in nine games since being called up from AAA Albuquerque — as the Rockies provided their long-suffering home fans a few smiles on their way out of the gates for the winter with a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in their home finale of 2025 at Coors Field on Sunday.

Crim, an Aug. 3 waiver claim from the Texas Rangers who was promoted nine days ago to replace the struggling Michael Toglia, has 11 RBI since joining the big club.

The fourth-inning homer put the Rockies up 2-1 and was one of just three hits the Rox had against Angels starter Caden Dana, who took the loss despite giving up just two runs over six innings.

Crim gave the Rockies an insurance run with a fielder’s choice RBI in the eighth, scoring Mickey Moniak.

Colorado improved to 43-113. The Rox finished their home schedule with a 25-56 mark.

ROCKIES STARTER’S REPORT

Kyle Freeland concluded the home slate of his season with a quality start and his fifth win, allowing one run, five hits and a walk with seven strikeouts over six innings.

Relieved after 85 pitches, Freeland yielded a first-inning run after three of the first four Angels batters reached base. Mike Trout delivered a leadoff double; Jo Adell drove him home two batters later.

But after a Bryce Teodosio single with two down in the second inning, Freeland locked in, retiring 10-consecutive Angels as the offense nudged in front. Jimmy Herget, Juan Mejia and Victor Vodnik combined for three innings of two-hit ball to close out the game and seal the win for Freeland, improving him to 5-16.

BITS AND PIECES

IT WAS DECIDED FOR THE ROCKIES WHEN: Vodnik got Nolan Schanuel to ground into a 3-6 double play in the ninth inning, wiping out Adell, who had led off with a single.
