Rockies promote two of their top three picks in last year’s draft to AA Hartford

The Colorado Rockies need plenty of help, and some potential answers got one step closer.

Two of their first three choices in last year’s draft, Charlie Condon and Jared Thomas, got the call Sunday to move up from high-A Spokane to AA Hartford in the Eastern League. Jonathan Mayo and Thomas Harding were first to report the moves.

Thomas, the No. 42 overall pick in last year’s draft out of the University of Texas, had a Northwest League-leading .330 average as part of a .330/.427/.495 line this season. He also ranked in that league’s top five in RBI, home runs and stolen bases.

Condon, last year’s No. 4 overall pick, got off to a slower start after missing the first month of the season because of a fractured wrist he suffered in spring training, delaying his regular-season debut with Spokane until May 5.

Still, Condon quickly overpowered pitching at that level, putting the struggles of last year behind him, when he posted a .180/.248/.270 line over 25 games and 109 plate appearances.

This year, Condon nudged his average to .300 on May 29 and kept it there from June 1 onward.

Condon sits atop the list of Rockies prospects, per MLB Pipeline; Thomas is 10th.
