Rockies’ president steps down, Walker Monfort promoted to EVP in big front office changes

The Colorado Rockies announced on Thursday that team president and COO Greg Feasel would be stepping down at the end of the 2025 season after 30 years with the club

The Colorado Rockies finally did what all fans have been calling for the organization to do for years now and made some front office changes. On Thursday morning, the day after the team lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers and dropped to an 18-62 record, the team announced that there would be a shakeup high in the front office.

However, the changes that were made didn’t involve the man, or men, that the fans usually call for to step down, but rather the team’s president and COO, Greg Feasel, who has been around the club since 1995.

For those who are wondering, team owner and CEO Dick Monfort is here to stay, and so is the rest of his family, as Walker Monfort will be the executive vice president of the club. He and Feasel will operate together (maybe they’re taking notes from the Nuggets) as the club completes the transition before officially having the title at the start of the new year.

“Greg has been a pillar of this organization since its earliest days,” said Monfort. “His leadership and vision helped shape not only the Colorado Rockies organization, but the entire baseball community throughout the Rocky Mountain region. He has been instrumental in our many successes over the years and has been a strong and steady presence throughout the past three decades.”

Feasel, 66, began his tenure with the Rockies as the vice president of sales and marketing and was promoted to COO in 2010. He then received the president title in 2021. Growing up, he was a football player who played his college ball at Abilene Christian in the late 1970s and contributed to the 1977 team that won the NAIA Division 1 National Championship. He counted around between a handful of NFL teams, including the Green Bay Packers, but could never find solid footing anywhere in the professional football realm before calling it a career after the 1987 season.

From 1983-1985, he did play for the Denver Gold, a USFL team that called the old Mile High Stadium home.

“While it is bittersweet to step aside from a job I love, this is something Dick and I have been discussing for a number of years,” said Feasel. “It has been a privilege to work for this franchise over the last 30 years, and I’m incredibly grateful to Dick for the opportunity to help guide and grow the Colorado Rockies. I look forward to working closely with Walker in the coming months to ensure a seamless transition, as well as staying involved with the ownership group as a limited partner and a member of the Colorado Rockies Foundation board.”

The move now puts the Monfort trio at the top of the Rockies’ brass, with Dick and Charlie as the co-owners and Walker right next to them as the EVP. For the fans who have been wanting to see a change in which that last name is no longer at the top of the organization, it’s likely not coming anytime soon.
