Rockies lose two pitchers for near future in latest round of transactions

The Colorado Rockies announced the club’s latest round of roster transactions coming off their 10th win of the season against the Miami Marlins on Monday night. While it was already reported that starting pitcher Chase Dollander would be coming off the 15-day IL and starting on Tuesday night, there were a handful of other moves on the pitching staff.

The Rockies announced the following transactions today:

– Reinstated RHP Chase Dollander from the 15-day IL.
– Placed RHP Tanner Gordon on the 15-day IL (retroactive to May 31), with a left oblique strain.
– Placed RHP Zach Agnos on the Bereavement List.

Zach Agnos, who has a 1.50 ERA and leads the team in saves (4) — including one on Monday in Miami — is headed to the bereavement list just hours after his strong performance. This list is a special list for players who have to suddenly leave the team to go attend to an illness or death in their family. Any player on the list is out for 3-7 games as they tend to whatever matter is at hand.

Tanner Gordon has only started three games for the Rockies, but has the best ERA on the pitching staff among starters (4.24). In 17 innings of action, he’s struck out 10 batters, walked three, and allowed 20 hits. He won his start against the New York Yankees back on May 23, when he only allowed two runs and struck out five batters in six innings of action.

The 27-year-old righty was scheduled to get the start tonight before his move to the injured list. If his recovery from the oblique strain goes as planned, he should be able to be back on the mound for the team’s series on the road against the Washington Nationals starting on June 16.

Chivilli is a relief pitcher who has appeared in 20 games for Colorado so far this season, posing an ERA of 6.14. He’s allowed eight runs in his last 3.2 innings on the bump, including three earned runs in 0.1 innings in his last outing against the Yankees on May 24. He has one win on the season, which was rewarded to him in the club’s 4-3 victory against San Francisco on May 1 after he retired the side in the seventh inning.

The Rockies are back in action against the Marlins on Tuesday as they seek their first series win of the season. First pitch from LoanDepot Park is scheduled for 4:40 p.m. MDT.
