Rockies look to go .500 this month, travel to Twin Cities

The Colorado Rockies are coming off a strong homestand where the team went 4-2 against the Pirates and Red Sox and now the boys in purple travel to the Twin Cities.

That homestand was highlighted by a win against reigning NL Cy Young winner Paul Skenes and a Jake McCarthy walkoff triple against Aroldis Chapman. In the process of getting these results the Rockies beat a solid Pirates team and the last place team in the AL.

Now, they’ll take on a team in-between in the Twins, who are 38-44. The Rockies come into the series with the only sub .400 winning percentage in MLB at 32-49. Though, it’s much better than last year and Colorado is now on pace to just avoid 100 losses.

The wins against Pittsburgh and Boston aren’t an outlier either, they’ve had a nice June, going 10-11. If they’re able to take this series from the Twins and finish the month well in Miami, it could be the Rockies first winning month since May of 2024.

Over the next three days it will be right handers for Colorado, with Tomoyuki Sugano, Michael Lorenzen then Ryan Feltner getting the ball. While righties Taj Bradley and Mike Paredes will toe the slab in the first two contests before lefty Connor Prielipp will take the mound for the finale.

Two-time All-Star and defensive wiz centerfielder Byron Buxton leads the Twins and the Rockies caught a break by not having to go against Joe Ryan. But the tough thing for the boys in purple remains the first game of a road trip, where they’re striking out at a 28% rate and have woeful xwOBA of .304. Both hints of the long known Coors Field hangover.
