Rockies 3B Arenado rides hot streak to NL Player of the Week honor

Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado claimed his fifth career National League Player of the Week honor, and the team’s first of the 2018 season, on Monday, helping the team slug its way to a 4-3 homestand last week.

Arenado netted 11 hits over seven games — including five home runs and two doubles — along with 13 RBIs and seven runs scored for a slash line of .379/.419/.966.

The top vote-getter at third base for the N.L. All-Star squad as of Monday, Arenado finished first in the league in RBI and total bases, tied for first in home runs and extra-base hits, and tied for second in runs scored.

He also homered in four consecutive games, the fourth-longest streak in Rockies history. Colorado won each of the games.

It’s Arenado’s first NL Players of the Week honor since July 23 of last season, which is also the last time a Rockies player earned the award.
