Pritchard: Broncos ‘need’ player like ILB C.J. Mosley on roster

With free agency, for all intents and purposes, opening up on Monday with the legal tampering period, many eyes are on the Denver Broncos and if they can make a play for inside middle linebacker C.J. Mosley.

On Friday, “Pritchard and Cecil” co-host Mike Pritchard said the Broncos “need” a player like Mosley on its roster, going as far as to say he hopes the trade for his former Baltimore Ravens teammate Joe Flacco “opens the door” for the linebacker to land Denver.

“He’s a great player. He raises the level of players around you. That’s all you needed to hear,” Pritchard said. “He makes everybody better around him. That’s what the Broncos need. And you need more of those players.”

The comments came after what Pritchard called a “ringing endorsement” of Mosley by former teammate Eric Weddle.

Weddle, who signed with the Los Angeles Rams this offseason after spending the past three years in Baltimore, told “Schlereth and Evans” that whatever team lands Mosley he “instantly makes their defense one of the best in the league.”

“The greatest compliment I can give about C.J. is he’s selfless. He has no ego, and he makes everyone around him better,” Weddle said.

Pritchard likened the impact to a quarterback who raises all boats for a team.

“If C.J. Mosley is making Bradley Chubb better and making Von Miller better and making Chris Harris Jr. better and making Justin Simmons better, then the defense is going to be better,” Pritchard said. “It’s like the quarterback. If the quarterback can make people on the offense better, then that’s what you do as well.”
