Subcommittee nominates Pat Bowlen for election to the Hall of Fame

After years of waiting, Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen stands one step closer to enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

On Thursday, the Hall’s subcommittee for contributors put forth Bowlen’s as a finalist for enshrinement.

“He clearly should be in the Hall of Fame, not only for the amount of winning his team has done but for his contributions behind the scenes,” Sports Radio 104.3 The Fan host Darren “DMac” McKee said.

The nomination comes after several years of support to find Bowlen a spot in Canton, Ohio, most recently the Put Pat In campaign, which garnered more than 7,000 signatures on a petition aimed to get the Broncos owner in the Hall of Fame.

However, Bowlen’s nomination was never an issue of “if” but rather “when,” with a strong Hall of Fame resume.

Bowlen’s accolades include:

» Three world championships — Super Bowl XXXII, Super Bowl XXXIII, and Super Bowl 50

» More Super Bowl appearances than losing seasons

» The second-best team record in the NFL since 1984, the year Bowlen took over as majority owner

» A 750 percent increase in TV revenue with Bowlen’s influence on NFL television committees

» Twenty-one winning seasons, 13 division titles, nine conference championship berths, and seven Super Bowl appearances

» At least 90 wins in each of the last three decades, the only NFL team to do so

» A full calendar year without a loss (December 1997 to December 1998)

» Since 1984, the Broncos have an NFL-low six losing seasons

» Denver has led the NFL in attendance, drawing more than 20 million fans since 1984
